jesus camp

With October being the spooky host of Halloween, there are a number of horror movies hitting theatres - Texas Chainsaw Massacre something or other, The Grudge 2, Saw 3 - oh, and Jesus Camp. So here's the thing - sometimes I am thankful for Evangelical Christians. I mean, they lend the rest of us some perspective on how truly lucky we are (not to be Evangelical Christians), and they provide endless entertainment. Aside from the fact that they're increasingly insistent upon fucking up our country's elections, and forgetting about the division of church and state, they really are an entertaining bunch. Case in point - this new film, Jesus Camp!

A growing number of Evangelical Christians believe there is a revival underway in America that requires Christian youth to assume leadership roles in advocating the causes of their religious movement. Jesus Camp follows a group of young children to Pastor Becky Fischer’s “Kids on Fire Summer Camp” where kids are taught to become dedicated Christian soldiers in God’s army and are schooled in how to take back America for Christ. The film is a first-ever look into an intense training ground that recruits born-again Christian children to become an active part of America’s political future.

I tracked down the actual website for this crazy mcgee bible thumping hot mess - and it's an absolute wealth of entertainment. Of particular enjoyment is the Pee-Wee Prophets section - seriously disturbing!
